October 2024
Safe Kids Seattle/South King County and State Farm Insurance Agent Jean Wall hosted a car seat check on October 26, 2024 in Covington, WA. Despite a very rainy and windy day, several families worked with certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians to make sure that their children were properly restrained in their car seat.
CPSTS are trained to address many child passenger safety concerns, and use all resources at their disposal to make sure kids leave our events safer than when they arrived. CPST Erick Salas went the extra mile when a family who only spoke Cambodian arrived at the event. Even though Erick doesn’t speak Cambodian, he quickly turned to Google Translate to converse with the parent. The car seat inspection revealed that the seat was damaged and expired. But with the use of Google Translate Voice the parent was fully involved in the checkup, understood the need to replace the seat, participated in, and mastered the installation of a new seat that was provided for the child’s safety. Everyone left with a great feeling, knowing that the child was safely restrained.
This experience was a great reminder that no matter what language is spoken, the safety of a child is always worth the extra effort!
